Fish Hooks - English

Fish Hooks is an American animated television series created by Noah Z. Jones . Twenty-one episodes were ordered for the first season. It premiered on September 24, 2010. An 11-minute preview was shown on September 3, 2010, following the Disney Channel Original Movie, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. It also premiered on ABC Family on January 15, 2011, at 7/6c. The stars of Fish Hooks are former That's So Raven and Cory in the House star Kyle Massey, Starstruck, Baby Daddy, and Jonas L.A.'s Chelsea Kane, and Justin Roiland. Fish Hooks is also one of only six animated Disney Channel Original Series currently in production (along with Phineas and Ferb, Gravity Falls, Mickey Mouse, Wander Over Yonder and the upcoming Star and the Forces of Evil). A third season, as of 2013, is in production. On September 23, 2013, Tom Warburton announced that Season 3 will be the final season.

Plot

The series revolves around adolescent fish Milo, his shy brother Oscar, and their "overly dramatic" friend Bea Goldfishberg. They attend a school submerged in an aquarium in a pet store. The series chronicles their daily lives as they deal with everything, from eel attacks and field trips to romance and homework.
In the credits sequence of each episode, there is a 30-second short featuring a rattlesnake and a mouse having various conversations and banter (usually about the episode itself).

Production

In 2009, President of entertainment Gary Marsh said of the show, "The Fish Hooks team has created one of the most original, inventive animated series on television – bringing an ingenious twist to the classic archetypes of high school life." The series will be produced using a mix of 2D digital animation and photo collages. The series is created and co-executive produced by children's book illustrator Noah Z. Jones and developed for television by Alex Hirsch and Bill Reiss. Main and recurring cast were announced in a Disney Channel press release on August 26, 2010.

Cast and characters

Main characters

  • Milo (voiced by Kyle Massey) is an adventurous Siamese fighting fish who is a self-proclaimed "party guy" and the main protagonist of the series. He attempts to have fun in any situation and is very loud and often dangerous. It was confirmed in "Doris Flores Gorgeous" that he is 17 years old, and is friends with Bea, an aspiring actress, and is also friends with his older brother Oscar. In "Fail Fish", Milo is shown to have an attention disability and only learns by absorbing knowledge in near-death situations.
  • Oscar (voiced by Justin Roiland) is a routinely nervous catfish with an afro. He is a video game lover and regularly serves as the voice of reason and justice between the main cast. He is often very stressed throughout the series, mostly because of Milo's misadventures and wild behavior. Oscar has had a somewhat-secret crush on Bea until mid-Season 2, where he falls in love with an angelfish named Angela, a gamer girl on a rival debate team, who becomes his girlfriend for the remainder of the season. He is shown as a neat-freak, and despite being brothers with Milo, they are the opposite of each other (along with being an entirely different species). For the first season of the series, a clam named Clamantha was Oscar's stalker and regularly followed him in secret, roughly until he met Angela. Then, when Oscar mistakingly calls Angela Bea, after Angela spend nearly all prom playing video games, Angela and him break up. Now, Oscar returned to his crush on Bea, with Bea harboring some romantic interests in him as well.
  • Bea Goldfishberg (voiced by Chelsea Kane) is a goldfish who is very "overly dramatic", and dreams to be a movie star in the future. For the first and a half seasons, her friend Oscar had a huge and regularly unspoken crush on her, to which she was completely oblivious. She is extremely self-centered and regularly boasts about her acting abilities and various talents. She also has a strong interest in the dramatic arts and constantly enrolls in various school plays. She has a stoic, regularly monotonic best friend named Shellsea, who usually has to snap Bea out of her dramatic tantrums or provide solutions to her problems. Now, Bea may have feelings for Oscar, most likely, but that is yet to be seen.

Recurring characters

  • Shellsea (Kari Wahlgren), a jewelfish, who is also Bea's best friend. She loves fashion and is concerned about looking good. She often has a somewhat negative and pessimistic personality. She supports Bea and is also good friends with Finberley, Koi, Esmargot, and Clamantha - however, she regularly and constantly talks behind Oscar's back. Like most of the other female cast, she has a huge crush on Steve Jackson.
  • Clamantha (Alex Hirsch), a crazy, high stressed, and energetic teen clam. She had an unhealthily obsessive crush on Oscar and would stop at nothing to become his girlfriend for the entirety of the first season. However, Clamantha's relationship with Oscar is one-sided, as Oscar finds Clamantha's attraction unsettling and disturbing. She is also in the Freshwater cheer squad and has lots of spirit, positive attitude and enthusiasm; although she isn't very bright. She is also the leader of a punck-rock band called The Shiny Objects.
  • Albert Glass (Atticus Shaffer), a nerdy glass fish who is very intelligent and diligent. He is abnormally pale, and as a result of being transparent, his brain can literally be seen through his head. He is best friends with Jumbo Shrimp and is good friends with Milo, Oscar and Bea. Albert is regularly very shy and quiet, and he and Jumbo are the main targets to bullying from Jocktopus. He is shown to play the trumpet. He starts dating Esmargot in "Chicks Dig Vampires".
  • Jumbo Shrimp (Steven Christopher Parker), an awkward shrimp who is best friends with Albert Glass. Jumbo is a science geek and loves figuring and solving out problems, finding and correcting errors in textbooks, and researching various topics in his spare time. Like Albert, Jumbo is an easy target to bullies. Along with Albert, he occasionally plays the tuba. After his robot date for prom leaves him, Angela and him begin dating.
  • Finberley (Kimberly Mooney), a small, kind fish who is one of Bea's friends. Finberley is often seen with Esmargot, and has a notable crush on Steve Jackson, more-so than the rest of the cast. A running gag on the show is that she is injured on a regular basis and recovers in the next scene(She also appears to have a notable crush on Milo.)
  • Esmargot (Rachel Dratch), a strange slimy sea slug. Esmargot appears to be constantly sick with a stuffed nose, and she leaves a trail of slime behind wherever she goes. Esmargot is one of Bea's friends, and like other girls, she has a crush on Steve Jackson. She plays the saxophone at school. She starts dating Albert glass in "Chicks Dig Vampires".
  • Koi (Rachel Dratch), a koi fish who is another one of Bea's friends. She is much bigger than the rest of her friends and rarely speaks in anything but short grunts - however, she is shown to be kind and caring to whoever possible.
  • Jocktopus (John DiMaggio), an octopus who is apparently the only bully in Freshwater High and the main antagonist of the series. Jocktopus enjoys bullying and tormenting others, especially nerds like Jumbo and Albert, but also occasionally Milo and Oscar. He usually refers to himself in the third person and shouts his thoughts and emotions out loud.
  • Mr. Baldwin (Dana Snyder), Milo, Oscar, and Bea's homeroom seahorse teacher in Freshwater High. Baldwin despises Milo and seems to hate his job. He is always bored, unenthusiastic and lazy, and is constantly trying to find a way to quit his job as a teacher. He is pregnant for the majority of the series until "Labor of Love" where he gives birth to 100-200 baby seahorses.
  • Ms. Lips (Jennifer Coolidge) is the guidance counselor of Freshwater High. She has a catfish named Atalia who Bea, Milo, and Oscar all hate. In "Labor of Love" she gets engaged to Mr. Baldwin.
  • Mr. Mussels (Tiny Lister), Freshwater High's drama teacher. Mr. Mussels has an abnormally loud voice and shouts every phrase, but loves motivating his students. He believes that every student has a dream and that someday, they will all rise to great achievement.
  • Principal Stickler (Jerry Stiller (Season 1); Jeff Bennett (Season 2)), Freshwater High's principal. Principal Stickler is a sea urchin who shouts orders to his assistant, Nurse Fishington. He is very strict and careful on sanitation, and is shown to be a clean-freak similar to Oscar - which can occasionally be considered a vast overreaction and quickly gets out-of-hand. In "Principal Bea", Stickler gives the position of principal to Fishington, and pilots a robotic walker, apparently leaving the pet shop for good. However, he returns afterward in "Get a Yob!"
  • Nurse Fishington (Annie Potts), is the school nurse of Freshwater High. In the episode "Principal Bea", it is revealed that she's actually a robot and was built by Principal Stickler.
  • Randall "Randy" Pincherson (Josh Sussman), a fiddler crab who is the secondary antagonist of the series. Randy comes from a rich family and is extremely spoiled, and is able to afford practically anything so he could have almost anything he wants. He loves provoking, blackmailing, gossiping and threatening students for varying reasons. He is very sarcastic, lazy, and tragic. He is somewhat of a bully to Milo, although devolves to more of a pest as the series progresses. Randy has a one-sided crush on Bea, which becomes one of his main concerns after Oscar starts dating Angela.
  • Steve Jackson (Greg Cipes), an attractive, charismatic fish whom most girls at Freshwater High have huge crushes on. He has wavy blond hair, and is apparently one of the most popular and praised people in Freshwater High - despite this, he's never seen being discriminative or rude towards anyone, and is casually neutral on most matters.
  • Bo Gregory (Maxwell Atoms), a fish who is known for having an abnormally large amount of tractors and trucks for transportation, utilized by many other students. Bo Gregory has his own farm, and owns a corn field and a ranch in the outskirts of the aqarium. He plays the French horn at school.
  • Razor V. Doom (Maxwell Atoms), the self-proclaimed leader of the goth group at Freshwater. He plays the tuba at school. Razor is ironically dark and serious about his life, and he and his group attempt to stay away from the other students.
  • Hugh Edmundson (Maxwell Atoms), a fish from France who is likely an exchange student. Hugh doesn't seem to speak English and is only seen speaking French.
  • Coach Salmons (Richard Simmons), a salmon who is Freshwater High's enthusiastic - to the point of flamboyant - gym teacher. Coach Salmons loves blindly motivating and encouraging his students almost as much as he loves singing, stretching and exercising.
  • Piranhica (Laura Ortiz), a piranha who is Jocktopus's girlfriend. Piranhica likes provoking other people and sometimes helps Jocktopus with his abusive behavior. She is shown to be substantially more intelligent than he, and occasionally is able to manipulate him into doing things.
  • Chief (Blake Clark), a blob fish who is the boss of the Hokey Poke Diner. He and Bassy currently work at the restaurant, but Chief used to be a fearless adventurer, who used to embark on quests and once attempted to catch a mythical seamonster, leading to him losing his leg.
  • Bassy (Tress MacNeille), a bass fish who is the waitress at the Hokey Poke Diner. She works alongside with Chief and she takes her job unnecessarily seriously.
  • Mr. Goldfishberg (Noah Z. Jones) and Mrs. Goldfishberg (Edie McClurg), Bea's embarrassing parents. Although they constantly embarrass Bea and treat her like a baby, they are friendly and supportive parents to their daughter.
  • Headphone Joe (John Caparulo), Freshwater's laid-back janitor who is mostly seen cleaning algae off the tanks with his mouth. Headphone Joe sometimes gives advice to his students, although he usually isn't much help.
  • Pass, Punt, and Fumble (Dave Wittenberg, Roger Craig Smith, and Alex Hirsch, respectively), a lake trout, gar, and grouper trio of football players who are Jocktopus's friends and assist him with his bullying. Pass is the tallest and apparent leader of the trio, Punt is the shortest and most intelligent, and Fumble is the least intelligent. Although it seems Jocktopus just uses them for that sole purpose, they are still loyal to him almost all of the time. All three of them possess the same amount of intelligence as Jocktopus.
  • Dr. Frog (Kevin McDonald), a frog who is Freshwater's formal journalism teacher. Dr. Frog is eccentric and quite unstable, but he is still normally friendly and likable. Due to him being a frog, he has to regularly jump out of the tank to breathe for air.
  • Angela (Felicia Day), a gamer girl whom Oscar met on a rival debate team. She was formerly his girlfriend, breaking up with him after he accidentally called her "Bea" when asking her to dance at the prom. She is now Jumbo Shrimp's girlfriend.
  • Pamela Hamster (Sabrina Bryan), a Hamster TV star who is secretly a gerbil. In the episode "Hamsterwood" Milo and Pamela become boyfriend and girlfriend. Milo and Pamela break up, when she says they need time apart. Now, she dates a different boy each episode.

My Gym Partner's a Monkey - English

My Gym Partner's a Monkey is an American animated television series created by Tim Cahill and Julie McNally-Cahill and produced by Cartoon Network Studios. It premiered on Cartoon Network on December 26, 2005, and on The WB Television Network on January 7, 2006. The story revolves around Adam Lyon, a human who, after a clerical error listed his surname as "Lion," is forced to transfer to Charles Darwin Middle School, a school for local anthropomorphic zoo animals, where he is partnered with Jake Spidermonkey in gym, with whom he quickly becomes best friends.
The series aired 96 episodes, one special and a feature film during its run. The series ended its 4-season run on November 27, 2008. On April 27, 2012, this series returned to Cartoon Network to show reruns on the revived block, Cartoon Planet. Two DVD volumes have been released in 2007 and 2008. The first season was recently put on Netflix, along with other Cartoon Network shows, but it's in widescreen for unknown reasons..
My Gym Partner's a Monkey was a ratings success for Cartoon Network, gaining millions of viewers. The series was met with generally positive reviews from critics. It was nominated for four Annie Awards and won an Emmy Award.

Overview

A boy named Adam is expelled to a middle school established for anthropomorphic zoo animals due to a spelling error making his surname "Lion". There, he is befriended by a mischievous, eccentric spider monkey named Jake, hence the title of the series, along with a sassy toucan named Lupe, a giraffe named Ingrid, who is infatuated with Adam, the intelligent, wise gorilla Windsor, and Slips the easygoing python. In spite of his usual kindness and fondness for his friends, Adam despises being banished to Charles Darwin Middle School because of something beyond his control and longs for his previous humanized middle school. Usually, the episodes are focused on Adam's experiences at Charles Darwin Middle School due to his inability to fit in with his anthropomorphic schoolmates, the challenges that he must face (such as the presumed stupidity of his peers, being schooled in subjects of use only to animals, the introductions of new students of odd, dangerous, or fictional species to the school or the misadventures that Adam stumbles into with them, or the common affects of adolescence as they are experienced by zoo animals).

Characters

Adam (left) and Jake (right)
  • Adam Lyon (voiced by Nika Futterman) is an immature 12-year-old human boy who was transferred from Chester Arthur Middle School to Charles Darwin Middle School (CDMS) by an accidental misspelling of his last name from "Lyon" to "Lion". As the series title suggests, in gym class, Adam was paired up with Jake Spidermonkey and the two become best friends. Jake's plans have them getting involved in situations which end up with him and Adam in trouble. Adam, being physically weak, is often preyed upon by the other animal students. His personality is downtrodden, due to being in an animal school and he also has a reputation of complaining about his daily experiences at the school. Adam can be arrogant and strong-willed at times. Outside of school, he is often seen with a human girl named Kerry, with whom he has a secret crush. His efforts to impress her end up with Adam's embarrassment. Towards the middle of the series, Adam seems to be on the borderline of sanity. Throughout the series, he has shown an extreme interest in clowns; for instance, his favorite super hero is Captain Clowny, he eagerly hopes to attend a clown-based summer day-camp and his college of choice is Clown College, as seen on his resume in the episode "My Feral Lyon".
  • Jacob P. "Jake" Spidermonkey (voiced by Tom Kenny), as his last name implies, is a spider monkey who quickly became Adam's best friend. He is often very possessive of Adam and hates not having him around regularly. Jake is emotional and goofy, who takes to heart some of Adam's comments and actions, leading to some overly-dramatic and exaggerated reactions. He can be lazy and selfish, but at the same time, he is also fairly sensible. Just as well, Jake tends to display feminine tendencies quite often. A running gag in the series is his obsession with the well-being of his butt, which he made grow so large that it blocked out the sun in one episode. Along with the majority of the other animal students, Jake lives close enough to the school that he can see it from where he lives. Jake seems to be very unintelligent. Jake has an older brother who looks like a taller, more stretched-out version of Jake.
  • Windsor Gorilla (voiced by Rick Gomez) is a highly intelligent lowland gorilla, who serves as the anti-bully at the school and often gives confusing wisdom to people. He speaks in a soft-spoken and nearly monotonous manner, often stringing together technical words as a matter of his normal speech. When he talks, only the side of his mouth closest to the camera moves and the rest of his mouth remains closed. He is usually seen with Slips and is generally shown to be the leader of the two. Windsor tends to relate with Adam's troubles better than the rest of the school, having a good grasp of both human and animal worlds, although he occasionally gives in to his animal instincts as well. Windsor has an older brother in high school who plays for his school's football team.
  • Slips Python (voiced by Rick Gomez) is an easy-going, street-talking green tree python. He is an underachiever and excessive daydreamer whose gullibility allows him to believe anything he hears, which makes him a constant source of misinformation. As a snake, he has no limbs, yet wears a T-shirt (why is never explained). Slips has an older sister in high school who, despite being a girl, looks like an older version of Slips with a deep manly voice. He is usually seen with his best friend Windsor.
  • Guadalupe "Lupe" Toucan (voiced by Grey DeLisle) is a female Keel-billed toucan, who is loud-mouthed, acerbic, dominating and materialistic, although she considers herself to be mild-tempered and low maintenance. Her best friend is Ingrid, who she dominates more than anyone else. Lupe loves popular culture, such as celebrities and fashion, though not being fond of clumsy tucan celebrity Kiki BonBeaky (despite this, she said later on that she was one of Kiki's biggest fans). She doesn't like milk.[1] She speaks with a somewhat exaggerated, but fake, Chicano dialect and is known to have some issues involving what she sees as her overly large beak. Lupe has a big sister who's in high school. She has a boyfriend named Corey Vulture, who is seen in the episode "Lupe in Love".
  • Ingrid Giraffe (voiced by Grey DeLisle) is a female masai giraffe and the tallest student in CDMS. Her towering height only adds to her feelings of insecurity, as she tries desperately to blend into the background. She is often seen with her neck going up then heading down on the screen in an exaggerated hunch, since it is very long and is often seen from the neck down. Lupe, Ingrid's best friend, often hushes her when she gives advice and basically runs the whole "friendship". Ingrid has a crush on Adam Lyon, of which he is mostly unaware, or is actively frightened by her advances. She's also considered to be the weakest in the group.
  • Principal Poncherello Pegone Pixiefrog (voiced by Maurice LaMarche), as his last name implies, is a Pixie Frog and the CDMS principal. As a strict, but fair, administrator, he runs a tight ship, which is somewhat remarkable, considering he could easily be squashed underfoot by most of his students and the rest of the faculty; for instance, when he was forced to watch the cheerleading practice, he ended up being crushed under LaTanya Hippo's foot with the weight of the entire team. Principal Pixiefrog always dodges lawsuits, is terrified of lawyers and is scared when anyone in the school could get sued (he is shown to have Liticaphobia). He talks similarly to Windsor, only moving part of his mouth, but his voice is much louder. Adam always asks him if anything bothers him, this frog principal will always help him to see. It is also revealed that Principal Pixiefrog has a mother, who bothers him.[2]
  • Mrs. Geraldine Sharon Warthog (voiced by Grey DeLisle) is Principal Pixiefrog's assistant; she does all of the filing and is, obviously, a warthog. Ironically, she never works. Completely fed up with her job and her employer, she always has an air of complete exasperation about her. Her voice is identical to that of Nurse Gazelle.
  • Virgil "Bull" Sharkowski (voiced by Phil LaMarr) is a bull shark who enjoys beating up smaller kids and stealing their lunches. His intimidating presence, however, is offset by a high-pitched, squeaky voice that sometimes lessens the impact of his verbal threats. Despite being a bully, he also has a soft humane side that he does not usually realize he is revealing. Due to Bull being a water creature, he wears water-filled headphones over his gills to help him breathe; when he talks, he will stop as his gills suck up the water with a loud noise. Bull has a big sister, Euripedes, who graduated CDMS prior to the beginning of the show and left a lasting impression in the school, a fact that has caused Bull to develop an inferiority complex at the mere mention of her name (despite the fact she is not only half Bull's size, but bullies via feminine taunts instead of physical abuse).

Broadcast history

After a pilot airing on December 26, 2005, the series began its regular run with a two-episode premiere on Cartoon Network's "Fridays" block on February 24, 2006.[4] The series also premiered on Kids' WB!, on The WB Television Network on January 7, 2006, to February 25, 2006, until it was replaced by The CW Television Network, continued to air My Gym Partner's a Monkey, from October 7, 2006, until March 29, 2008. The My Gym Partner's a Monkey-based television film The Big Field Trip aired on January 14, 2007, as part of season 3. A special episode, "That Darn Platypus", aired on Cartoon Network on May 6, 2007, as part of Cartoon Network Invaded, a mini-series that aired 5 specials of different series from May 4 to May 28, 2007. The series ended its 4 season-run on November 27, 2008, with the episode "A Thanksgiving Carol". Reruns of the series are shown on the revived block Cartoon Planet since April 27, 2012.

Reception

My Gym Partner's a Monkey was a ratings success for Cartoon Network. On the series' Cartoon Network "Fridays" block two-episode premiere at 9:00 and 9:30 P.M. EST, the first episode was seen by 1.2 million and the second by 1.3 million children ages 2–11, according to preliminary data from Nielsen Media Research.[4] The 9:30 P.M. telecast ranked as the #1 telecast on all television, broadcast and cable, with both boys 6–11 and boys 2–11 in the time period.[4] The series went on top the Fridays block ratings, gaining millions of viewers.
My Gym Partner's a Monkey received generally positive reviews from critics. William Barker of Web Wombat gave the King of the Jungle DVD a positive review, awarding it with a score of 70%, saying: "With an original – dare I say unique? – premise, My Gym Partner's a Monkey makes for a somewhat refreshing change from super heroes and mutants, and the cut-out animation style is captivating, though far from novel. It's not the most impressive cartoon show I've ever seen, but it's quite cute and fairly amusing – even for the older primates among us." Larisa Wiseman of Common Sense Media awarded the series three out of five stars, saying: "It's difficult to tell what age group the show's producers were aiming at – the animation style and slapstick by themselves would seem to appeal mainly to grade-schoolers, while the jokes and life lessons are definitely aimed at the tween set. The sly humor may even give some adults the occasional laugh-out-loud moment. Overall, My Gym Partner's a Monkey is commendable for its effort to include a subtle message in each episode. Younger viewers will probably find Jake's sometimes-annoying goofiness amusing, and will definitely find the story lines entertaining."

Master Raindrop - English

Master Raindrop is a children's animated television program produced jointly by Australian, New Zealand and Singaporean companies that first screened on the Australian Seven Network in 2008. There are 26 episodes of 24 minutes duration.

Overview

The series begins with personifications of two of the five elements, Raindrop (water) and Shao Yen (wood), training with their Master, Yun, in the ancient art of Chitaido. However the strongest leader in the Land of a Thousand Legends, General Bu, upsets the peaceful world by taking Yun to begin his attempt to capture the four elements after Flamo, the fire element, joins him voluntarily. General Bu does this to stop the elements joining together and defeating him. Master Raindrop and Shao Yen are soon joined by the other two elements: Jin Hou, the metal element (an anthropomorphic golden monkey), and Niwa, the earth element (a humanoid girl who appears to be made of clay). Together they attempt to rescue Master Yun and travel to the place where the golden dragon was defeated and restore him to power.

Cast

  • Jane U'Brien as Jin Hou
  • Rachel King as Niwa
  • Sarah Aubrey as Shao Yen
  • Josh Quong Tart as Flamo
  • Josh Anderson as Master Raindrop
